Welcoming Language Subcommittee Discussion – Hosted by Area 64 Literature Committee

The Welcoming Language Subcomittee was brought up, as mentioned in the Q3 Trustee Board Minutes.

This is a subcommittee of the Trustees CPC/Treatment & Accessibilities Committee. Members expressed concerns such as “Derogatory”; being a subjective term and could lead to “policing language”; One participant noted that “perceived as derogatory”; is a broad standard that could invite endless debate, and asked for a clear definition of the terms “derogatory,” “offensive,” and “misogynistic.”

Committee is compiling questions to submit to Heather prior to Q4 Trustee Meeting to seek clarification in regards to this newly formed subcommittee and request Heather to join us for an information sharing session after she has attended. Discussion with Heather resulted in scheduling of Literature Committee meeting on November 15th , 4:00pm CST to share any other information obtained regarding this Subcommittee.
